I grew up in a quaint town in New Jersey and I was the smallest child in my grade until I was 15. What I lacked in inches, I made up in personality and would constantly create little live shows and movies on 16mm film that I would force my parents and friends to watch. I even gave out tickets as if we were in a real theater. Our family often went to Broadway and after seeing the performances, my dad would buy me the records. I'd play them over and over again, until I memorized every word to every song and I'd imagined I was Annie, or Wendy, or Maggie and I'd spend all afternoon "dancing around the living room." Performing was my unattainable dream.
Although I was always trying to keep my finger on the pulse of the industry, after graduation the practical side of my brain took over, and instead of pursuing it myself, I taught drama to middle school students at 3 different schools. If I couldn't follow my dream, at least I could encourage and motivate the next generation of performers, while still quietly holding on to my own hope of "maybe someday." One of my students actually did perform on Broadway and credited me as her inspiration!!
After 15 years, when watching from the sidelines became too much to bear any longer, I decided it was finally my turn. My turn to be a student, my turn to test those limits, my turn to push myself, and my turn to take the risks that I had been teaching others to do for so many years. Now, not only do I act in films, TV shows, and commercials (I even won two performance awards!!), I write scripts that have gotten accolades such as the Best Short Drama Screenplay and the Best First Time Screenwriter Award, among others. I produce films that have been official selections of multiple festivals, I edit my own work, and every day I strive to do one more thing to stay creative. This year, I even learned to play the drums, and believe it or not, I am also part of a rock band!
Take it from me... it's never too late to learn, to grow, to challenge yourself or to go after your unattainable dream. When you finally do take that chance, its the most rewarding thing in the world!
"I had the pleasure of teaching Robyn in my NYC workshop and watching her grow as an actress. She is dedicated to her craft, and proactively capitalized on that, by not only learning to act, but to also produce her own independent films."
- Richard Kline, Tv + Broadway actor (Best known as Larry Dallas in Three's Company and in Waitress on Broadway)
"Robyn was a student of mine for three years. In that time her work ethic, professionalism, and talent grew tremendously, and I was so impressed with her tremendous drive. She pushed herself outside of her comfort zone, never settling for mediocre, and always with great results.. I loved coaching her and I am a huge fan of her work."
- Matt Newton, founder and coach of MN Acting Studio
Robyn was fearless and focused in her performance as Samantha in "The Dog Walker" and it was a privilege to work with her and witness such transformation in an acting performance."
-Kylie Hitchock, Writer + Director
